Lishi Tools for GM: HU100, B111, GM39 and CH1 Keyways

Short version: on GM, the lock position decides the tool before the brand does. HU100 v.3 covers most Cadillac, Opel and Buick ignition, door and trunk locks — but Buick doors also use B111 and GM39, and Chevrolet Malibu/Captiva use CH1. Buy for the lock, not for the badge.

1. Why GM is the most fragmented

Ford largely standardised on HU101. Chrysler and Jeep work is dominated by CY24. GM did not standardise the same way.

Door locks and ignition locks frequently use different keyway families, and the same nameplate can appear under two profiles depending on year and market.

2. HU100 v.3: the core tool

8-cut, covering ignition, door and trunk on a long list of Cadillac, Opel and Buick applications. The v.3 revision matters — earlier HU100 tools do not decode the same wafer stack.

For newer Cadillac blades there is HU100(10) v.3: same family name, 10 cuts. Both belong in a kit that services late-model GM vehicles.

3. Buick doors are their own problem

B111 is a 10-cut Buick door-lock tool. GM39 (37/40/41) covers Buick GL8 and Regal doors. Neither is an ignition tool, and neither substitutes for HU100.

This is where most GM returns come from: one "GM tool" is bought, then a Buick door needs a different code.

4. Chevrolet: CH1 v.2

CH1 v.2 (DW05) covers Chevrolet Malibu and Captiva ignition locks. It is Chevrolet-specific and should not be expected to work on a Buick or Cadillac of the same era.

5. Opel is its own cluster

HU43 v.3 covers Opel ignition, door and trunk. HU46 v.3 is the 10-cut Astra profile. YM28 v.3 covers Opel and Holden with an anti-glare finish.

If you work on European-market GM vehicles, treat Opel separately rather than as an extension of Cadillac.

6. GM keyway table

Keyway Cut Application SKU
HU100 v.3 8 Cadillac, Opel, Buick — ignition, door, trunk AQLN0007
HU100(10) v.3 10 New Cadillac — ignition, door, trunk AQLN0026
B111 10 Buick — door lock AQLP0032
GM39 (37/40/41) 10 Buick GL8, Regal — door AQLP0015
CH1 v.2 (DW05) — Chevrolet Malibu, Captiva — ignition AQLP0027
DWO4R 8 Buick Excelle, Sail, Joy — ignition AQLP0013

7. What these tools won't do

They won't cover a different lock position on the same car, and they won't program keys. Door and ignition codes often differ on GM — that is the first check, not the last.

8. FAQ

Does HU100 v.3 cover all GM vehicles?

No. Buick doors use B111 or GM39, Chevrolet Malibu/Captiva use CH1, and newer Cadillac blades use HU100(10) v.3.

What is the difference between HU100 v.3 and HU100(10) v.3?

Cut count. One is 8-cut, the other 10-cut. They are different tools.

Can I use a Buick door tool on a Cadillac?

Only if the keyway code matches. The brand alone is not enough.

9. Where to start

For most US GM work, start with HU100 v.3 and add B111 for Buick doors. The full range is in the American Vehicle collection.
