How to Choose the Right Lishi 2-in-1 Tool

Short version: choose a Lishi tool by lock type, keyway code, cut count and version — in that order. Brand and model only narrow the range. If you cannot read the keyway, do not guess: check the six compatibility fields first.

1. Identify the lock type

Automotive, residential and motorcycle locks use different tool families. Start here, because it removes most of the catalogue immediately.

Type Typical keyways Notes
Automotive HU66, HU100, HU101, TOY43, CY24 Keyway changes by model year
Residential / commercial SC1, KW1, M1, Y1 US and European cylinder standards differ
Motorcycle HON77, Kawasaki profiles Ignition locks, tight tolerances

2. Read the keyway code

The code stamped on the key or lock is the actual tool identifier. HU66 is not "the VW tool" — it is one keyway used on a range of VW, Audi and Skoda vehicles.

Examples: HU66 for older VW/Audi, HU100 v.3 for GM, HU101 for Ford. If the code is unreadable, use the year and lock position, then confirm.

3. Confirm the cut count and version

Cut count is lock geometry, not tool quality. An 8-cut tool cannot read a 10-cut keyway.

Version matters too: HU162T exists in 8-cut, 9-cut and 10-cut versions, and each fits a different lock. Read the product title, not just the family name.

4. Buy from an authorized source

Counterfeit 2-in-1 tools fail in two ways: the decoder reads the wrong depths, or the pick tip distorts after a few jobs. Both are invisible in a product photo.

Genuine tools have the model and serial number engraved, clear scale markings, and a decoding window that lines up under tension.

5. Quick reference
