Best Lishi 2-in-1 Tools for European Cars: HU66, HU92, HU162T, HU43 and HU83
Short version: for European cars, Volkswagen/Audi group splits by generation — HU66 for older vehicles, HU162T for 2015+. BMW and Land Rover run on HU92. Buying the newest tool does not help if the vehicle is on the older keyway.
1. Generation decides the tool
European manufacturers changed keyways more often than American ones. The same Golf can be HU66 or HU162T depending on year, and the same BMW can be HU92 or a newer profile.
Check the year and the keyway before the brand.
2. VW, Audi and Skoda: HU66 first, HU162T next
HU66 is the 8-cut profile for older Audi, Volkswagen and Skoda ignition, door and trunk locks. It is the default for pre-2015 work.
HU162T is the newer family, and it comes in several cut counts: 8-cut for ignition, 9-cut v.2 for 2015+ door locks, 10-cut for Magotan B8 and newer Audi doors.
That is the trap: "HU162T" alone is not a tool. The cut count and the version decide.
3. BMW and Land Rover: HU92
HU92 is the 8-cut profile for BMW and Land Rover ignition, door and trunk locks. There is also a direct-read version (HU92 v.3) for reading depths without picking, and a single-lifter variant.
If you decode rather than pick, the direct-read version saves a step.

5. What these tools won't do
A HU66 will not read a HU162T keyway, and an 8-cut HU162T will not read the 9-cut door profile. Same family name, different tool.
None of them program immobilisers. Picking and decoding is a separate operation from key programming.

Is HU162T one tool or several?
Several. 8-cut, 9-cut and 10-cut versions cover different locks and years. Check the cut count and application in the title.
Do I need both HU66 and HU162T?
If you work across VW/Audi generations, yes. HU66 covers older vehicles; HU162T covers 2015+ and newer Audi doors.
Is the direct-read HU92 better?
It is better if you decode rather than pick. For picking, the standard HU92 is the tool.
